GEORGE SWEENEY

LIMA — George E. Sweeney, 71, passed away at 6:44 pm May 28, 2017. He was born April 5, 1946 in Lima to John and Doris (Provanche) Sweeney who preceded him in death. On January 17, 1992 he married Carol Harter who survives in Lima.

He had worked for Standard Oil Chemical Company and then was the owner of State Accounting Services. He attended St. Charles Catholic Church, an U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, was a member of the Lima Noon Optimist, Eagles, Elks, Knights of Columbus, Tamarac Golf Course, and was a board member of Beacon Federal Credit Union for many years. He loved spending time with his family, golfing, and playing cards.

Survivors include: 2 Sons, Scott (Nicki) Sweeney of Lima, Eric (Nicole) Sweeney of Elida; 2 Step-sons, Brian (Chelsea) Harter, Brent (Jennifer) Harter both of Columbus; Grandchildren - Brandon, Jordan, Jaden, Jacqueline, Jennessa, J.D., Breyonna, Declan, Kelan, and Gabriel; a Great-granddaughter, Chloe; a Brother, Phil (Maryann) Sweeney of Lima; 4 Sisters, Gloria Kimmey of Van Wert, Joyce (Dennis) Cunningham of Lima, Sue Provanche of Lima, Doris (Dan) Brickner of Elida; a Sister-in-law, Bev Sweeney of Vandalia, Many Nieces and Nephews.

He was preceded in death by: a Brother, Robert Sweeney; 2 Sisters, Patricia Beoucher, Barb Esmonde.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, June 1, 2017 at St. Charles Catholic Church with Father Kent Kaufman officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Air Force and VFW Post 1275. Friends may call from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Wednesday at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES SHAWNEE CHAPEL
