Jacqueline Crisp (Tyre)

It is with great sadness that the family of Jacqueline Ann Tyre announces her passing at the age of 78 years old. Jackie was called into the presence of the Lord on Friday, January 24, 2025, unexpectedly in her home. She was born August 18, 1946, in Big Stick, West Virginia to Albert and Vivian Crisp who both preceded her in death.

Jacqueline graduated from Lima Senior High School and attended West Virginia State University, where she played basketball and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Education.  She also attended University of Northwest Ohio, majoring in E-Commerce. 

Jackie began her career as a social worker for the Kanawha County Department of Welfare in West Virginia and later became a planner and CETA Director for the Lima-Allen County Community Action Commission. She held multiple management positions at Sprint from 1976 to December 2000, including Regional Manager, Staff Analyst, Business Office Manager, Staff Administrator, Business Office Supervisor, Consumer Affairs Supervisor and Group Chief Operator. She was trained in project management and obtained a Triple “C” Certification at Sprint Learning Center. She also completed Grassroots Campaigns at Columbus University. 

After retiring from Sprint, Jackie served as a substitute teacher for the Lima City Schools from 2010-2011. She was also a member and President of the Lima Civil Service Board from December 2001-December 2009. Jackie was actively involved in the community, participating in organizations such as Junior Achievement, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, President of the American Businesswomen’s Association, Employee Participation Council, Allen County Grievance Committee, Cheryl Allen Board, girls’ basketball coach, secretary and previous president of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Neighborhood Association.

Jackie received numerous accolades for her community involvement, including President’s Club for Political Action Conduit Member, District Speakers Award 3rd place for Outstanding Performance 1983, Ambassador’s Club of the United Telephone Company of Ohio 1984, Sherrod Brown’s Keeper of the Flame award 1990, MOABWA Chapter Women of the Year 1991, American Women Association 1997-1998, Storm Basketball Team coach award 2004-2005, Executive Board Member of the Council 2000,  Berger for Mayor Campaign 2005, Neighborhood Resource Specialist 2011, 6th Ward Community Action Person of the Year 2015 and 2016, as well as the Georgia Newsome Award Honoree Bringing the Dream Within Our Reach 2020.

She is survived by her three wonderful sisters and one brother:  Alvita Crisp; LaRue Ward, Ruby (Henry) Horne and Albert Aaron Crisp, all of whom reside in Lima.  She is survived by her ex-husband, Albert Tyre, who resides in the Washington DC area. Precious memories of her are shared by her daughter, Chris Stewart, her son-in-law,  Wendell Stewart Sr. of Maumee and her three lovely grandchildren, Aisha Tyre of Detroit, Michigan, Wendell Ned Stewart Jr. and Christopher Anthony Stewart of Maumee.  Jackie also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly, as well as cousins who will miss her dearly.

Her true legacy lies in the love and memories shared by her family.  Jackie was instrumental in keeping the Wright Family Reunion together, serving as secretary, other roles and a member of the board. She loved to play cards, party, have fun and had a witty sense of humor.  Jackie will forever be missed. 

Jackie was a member of Southside Church of Christ in Mansfield and attended other churches on an ongoing basis. Jackie will forever be remembered for her strong faith in God and her participation in a Ladies Bible Study.

Visitation services to celebrate Jackie’s life will be held for family and friends 4-8 pm on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Jones-Clark Funeral Home, 1902 Oakland Parkway, Lima.  

Funeral services will be held Friday at noon at Second Baptist Church, 520 West Spring Street, Lima, with  Dr. B. LaMont Monford, Sr., officiating.followed by a luncheon.
